Russell Halliday - russell@hwv.co.uk

Russell, who joined H. W. Vaughan as a partner in 1998, has a wealth of experience in advising business owners. His career began with Touche Ross in Cardiff, working with owner managed businesses. Russell then returned home to Swansea to join PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he specialised in tax issues and tax planning.

He now works with a wide range of clients, including care homes, construction companies, trading companies, caravan parks and dentists. They all benefit from his experience and understanding of accounting, the commercial factors affecting business, and the way in which the tax environment can best be navigated.

Russell’s expertise in capital gains tax, corporation tax, income tax and inheritance tax means he is ideally placed to advise clients on minimising their liabilities and to deal with specific tax problems.

When working with clients, he finds the greatest satisfaction in solving problems and achieving better results for the clients he works with.

"I think it’s important to understand the businesses we advise, and to ensure the solutions provided fit not just the important short-term tax considerations, but also the longer-term goals of the people we work with."

He is a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Institute of Tax. Outside work, Russell enjoys golf and skiing, and one day hopes to master that surf board in the garage...

Rylan Lopez - rylan@hwv.co.uk

Rylan joined H.W. Vaughan in 1998, bringing with him experience gained as an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and as the financial controller of a UK subsidiary of one of the largest Japanese manufacturing companies.

He is the senior statutory auditor for H.W. Vaughan and also provides specialist advice on systems, corporate finance, taxation and strategic planning.

During his three years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Rylan worked in the Business Service Section of the Audit Team, advising both smaller businesses and Blue Chip Stock Exchange listed clients.

Rylan undertook several ad-hoc assignments, including preparing a prospectus for a UK-based company to do a reverse takeover in America and aim for a NASDAQ listing, as well as various impromptu projects on a number of subsidiaries of Blue Chip companies.

Following his time at PricewaterhouseCoopers, he spent 18 months as the financial controller and company secretary for the UK base of one of the largest Japanese manufacturing companies.

From this, Rylan gained substantial experience of working in industry and understanding of the requirements of a business from within rather than as an external advisor. He also acquired tremendous knowledge of import, export, foreign currency risk and the various reporting requirements for both Japanese and European legislation.

His client portfolio features companies of all sizes and from all sectors, including care homes, builders’ and timber merchants, property and warehousing, and registered charities.

A key priority for Rylan is to establish clients’ goals, and he enjoys working with people who welcome proactive advice and are open to ideas, to help them operate more effectively and achieve those goals.

He is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
